Abstract: The Cris-Mures National Park keeps the unique values of the landscape in the region lying between the Carpathians and the Tisza River. Most of the values are related to waters such as: the hydrographical network of the Mures and Crisuri rivers, with their “suspended courses”, with the riverside forests, with the Sarret marshes and the salt adjacent meadows.

Abstract: The author’s microscopic and field studies have elucidated the source of the (Sarmatian) limestone of which our ancestors have built the fortresses in the Orastie Mountains 2000 years ago. The author presumes that the Magura Hill (Sangeorgiu, Hunedoara county) be enacted as a geological/historical monument.

Abstract: Semiochemicals  represent a modern ecotehnology for the study of comunities and ecosystems, and environment protection, also. Their role is very important in modelling of the all tipes of behaviours (reproduction, locomotory, feeding), and in practice, semiochemicals are used for pests monitoring, management and direct control. In Romania, during 1970-1990 were obtained important theoretical and practical results in the chemistry and biology studies about semiochemicals, especialy pheromones (Stan 1996). On the other hand, in the last time, these studies were neglected in Romania. The paper attempt to present to young research-workers particularities of this domain, the  tipology of the semiochemicals and some results were obtained in this field involved for ecological agriculture sustainability.

Abstract: The climatic changes from the last years have impelled the elaboration of a sustainable strategy, the different application from one country to another. The author intends to clear up the dependency between the natural and the social environment, respectively the economic environment. Further, there are approached in detail some ideas of the recent European workshop (Berlin 29.06 – 1.07.2007), where the author attended and where there was debated the social-ecological conversion and its relationship towards sustainable development.

Abstract: The scenario of possible mega-eruption in the area of Yellowstone Natural Park (U.S.A.) is presented – as it results from the North-American geological researches. The attention is focused on the environmental catastrophic consequences of a super volcanic eruption. As to the Romanian territory, the volcanic eruptions in the Lower Badenian (- 16 MYR) in the area of Transylvanian Basin, which can be classified in the category of super-eruptions. It is concluded that nowadays, there is no immediate danger of a catastrophe generated by a super volcano.

Abstract: Restoration of the waste dumps into the economic flux requires mining reconstruction leading to providing the needed conditions for soil fertility regeneration. The cultivation (re-cultivation) proper with various types of crops is done for restoring the fertility of the degraded areas, for the creation of an optimal organization of the landscape, in order to fulfil the diverse needs of the local communities. A piece of land is considered as “re-cultivated”, thus corresponding to the requirements for agricultural rehabilitated lands, when the crops obtained are in the same parameters for quantity and quality, at the same production costs with the same perimeters in areas with non-degraded lands.

Abstract: Coccolithophores are one of the main groups of marine phytoplankton playing key roles in the marine ecosystem as primary producers and in marine biogeochemistry. These organisms have gained considerable attention as they play a unique role in the global carbon cycle because of their combined effects on both the organic carbon and the carbonate pump. Productivity and distribution of coccolithophores are sensitive to CO2-related changes in environmental conditions, both directly through acidification of surface seawater and indirectly through increasing upper-ocean thermal stratification.

Abstract: It is well known that the eutrophication phenomena is related to the oxygen consumption problem. We have studied the sediment oxygen demand in Serraia lake (Italy)  sediments at different temperature values, in oxic and anoxic conditions. From the comparison of the experimental data we can say that the temperature definitely influences the oxygen consumption and that the consumption rate increases with the temperature.

Abstract: The objectives of the Community’s environment policy are to preserve, protect and improve the quality of the environment, protect human health and use natural resources rationally. The directive 2002/96/EC WEEE (Waste Electric and Electronic Equipment)   establishes the strategy for electric and electronic waste management: collecting, treating, reducing the quantity, reusing, recycling, recovering energy from waste. The directive 2002/95/EC RoHS (Restriction of the use of certain Hazardous Substances in electrical and electronic equipment) ensures the significant reduction of risks to health and environment relating to heavy metals. This paper contains some remarks on the electric and electronic waste management in Romania. New tehnological problems about lead free joints are presented.

Abstract: Advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) have been defined as water treatment processes that involve the generation of highly reactive radical intermediates, especially OHo, represent alternative techniques for catalyzing the production of these radicals, thereby accelerating the destruction of organic contaminants. Existing Processes: Ozone/Hydrogen Peroxide; Ozone/UV Radiation; Hydrogen Peroxide/UV Radiation and Fe3+/UV. The second part represents an application of the treatments methods membrane applications, dissolved air flotation, reverse osmosis.

Abstract: Biodiversity should be understood as a dynamic and interactiv ensemble among the very different levels of the biological hierarchy…a modern version of the sciences of evolution which makes the synthesis between the recent discoveries of the molecular biology and ecology. Biodiversity is a very valuable part of the national and universal legacy. It refers to the animate world and it should be seen as a part of the environmental issues. Its preservation is a major task, having a permanent character which should be of general concern, a duty of the whole humanity. This article presents the study done by the students from The Forestry School Cluster in Guşetu Valley from The Rodnei Mountains National Park, during the last 3 years in order to identify the specific flora, as a part of the local biodiversity.

Abstract: In 1977, SERS effect (Surface Enhanced Raman Scattering) was recognized for the first time as being a new physical effect. This effect consists in amplification of Raman spectrum intensity of a certain compound with a 105-106 factor, in the presence of a metallic nanostructures. Since that moment, a new research field arose: electromagnetical radiation interaction with metallic nanostructures domain, with a strong applicability. In this article we briefly discuss about the main theoretical aspects and we also present practical aspects concerning the possibility to obtain some active nanostructured surfaces SERS.
